What it looks like
The rest of the time it stays out of the way, in the menu bar. It tells you it is running, how many snippets are active, and lets you switch expansion off for an hour when you would rather it kept quiet.

It stays on your machine
Key Expander keeps your snippets in a file on your own machine, and expanding text never waits on the network - switch the connection off and it carries on working.
On the free plan your snippets stay on the one device you installed the app on, and nowhere else: there is no sync and no copy of them on our servers, so if that device is lost the snippets are lost with it. With a paid subscription your library follows you to every device you have activated, without your having to set anything up. Sync is the one thing that sends your snippet text to us, you can switch it off in the app's settings, and our privacy statement sets out exactly what is stored and for how long.
It never stores passwords, never keeps a copy of your clipboard, and never records what you type beyond the moment it needs to spot a trigger.
